Name of Organization: Environmental Learning Centers of Connecticut, Inc.
Reports to: Board of Trustees
Supervises: Senior staff. responsible for all staff.
Position Summary: The Executive Director is responsible for Environmental Learning Centers of Connecticut, Inc. (ELCCT) overall strategic direction leadership, and administration. The Executive Director has broad authority to lead and govern the operations of the Centers toward its mission, strategic goals and operations. Primary responsibilities include implementation of the strategic plan, carrying out ELCCT policies as determined by the Board, staff development and supervision, financial management, fund raising, public relations, program development, facilities/site management and evaluation. This is a full-time position hired by and directly accountable to the Board of Trustees.
Required Skills and Competencies
The ideal candidate will:
- Have 5 or more years experience working successfully for a not-for-profit organization.
- Have strong communication skills – listening, oral and written.
- Have a strong and deep commitment to nature and the goals of environmental education and land preservation.
- Be knowledgeable in the field of natural sciences and best educational practices, especially in environmental education. Bachelors or Masters degree in natural science, environmental education and or business and non-profit management is preferred.
- Have strong leadership and management (delegation and supervisory) skills in working with staff, adults, volunteers and children. Have at least 3 years of successful experience working in an administrative or supervisory role.
- Have computer and other technological skills needed to perform the job.
- Be highly motivated with good planning and organizational skills.
- Be physically fit and capable of doing physical work when needed and appropriate.
- Have knowledge, skills and experience in fund development and be proactive, personable and professional in seeking out and meeting with prospective donors, foundations, community and business leaders.
- Always act in a professional manner.
- Be able to makes sound, appropriate, and thoughtful decisions.
- Passion for the purpose of this type of organization.
Entrance Requirements: Minimum / Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in related field/ Masters preferred
- 5 years experience working in the field of environmental education, conservation, land preservation and/or non-profit management.
- 3 years of administrative/supervisory experience as a director or administrator of a similar non-profit organization
