Environmental Studies MS

The Master of Science in Environmental Studies is an interdisciplinary degree that focuses on the natural and social sciences as they relate to environmental problem solving.

Housed in the Center for Environmental, Economics, Earth and Space Studies, applied environmental research focuses on both generic and regional problems related to pollution impacts and abatement, and natural resource utilization and protection. Laboratories and equipment devoted to ecological, chemical, microbiological, and toxicological studies.

Students pursuing the MS in Environmental Studies must complete 35 credits total. The required core makes up approximately 20 credits.

$20 non-refundable application fee

Official transcripts of bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university

Overall undergraduate GPA: 2.75*

One-page letter of intent stating the Environmental Studies Specialization you want to pursue, your academic background, professional working experience (if any) and any additional information that you believe will assist those who are reviewing your application

Two Professional Recommendations (faculty, employers, supervisors, etc.)

Graduate Record Examination, General Test scores (Verbal: 152, Quantitative: 155, and Analytical: 4.5 or higher); to register, go to: GRE/ETS

International students must provide Proof of English Proficiency.


*Students with an undergraduate GPA below 2.75 or who are within 11 semester hours of satisfying undergraduate degree requirements may qualify for provisional admission. Contact the School of Graduate Studies for more information.

Graduate Assistantships

Some students may qualify for a graduate assistantship, which includes a tuition waiver and stipend. GAs, in return, are expected to complete certain teaching and/or research assignments for the department.
