ENVIRONMENTALIST II
(TECHNICAL SUPPORT SPECIALIST) $34,866.00 $41,086.50 Position #40498
The New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services (DES), Waste Management Division, Oil Remediation and Compliance Bureau has an immediate opening for a fulltime Environmentalist II. The position will be based out of the Concord office assisting spill response project managers with enforcement of the hazardous waste, petroleum and solid waste rules. Work will include preparing emergency response planning documents and assisting in coastal spill response planning, preparedness and exercises at the DES Portsmouth field office.
Minimum qualifications for this position is a bachelor's degree with a major study in hydrology,geology,biology, water resources management, environmental conservation or related environmental science and two years experience as an Environmentalist in a field related to hydrology, geology, biology, water resources management or other related environmental science. Each additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year of required work experience. Must possess a valid driver’s license for performing professional field work.
Must be proficient in the use of computers and peripheral devices. The selected candidate must be able to pass a baseline medical examination confirming physical ability to perform all duties required, including wearing respiratory protective equipment in accordance with the recommendations of the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) and able to deploy spill response equipment weighing 30 pounds or more. Experience with the operation and maintenance of equipment typically used in spill response, including, but not limited to, small engines,pumps,communications equipment, field detection equipment and the operation and maintenance of boats, boat motors,and trailers preferred.
The salary range for this position is $34,866.00 - $41,086.50. The successful candidate must satisfactorily pass criminal background and motor vehicle checks and will have to pay a union/agency fee in the future.
