Environment America seeks an Advocate to advance federal protections for our rivers, lakes, streams, and drinking water.
Founded in 2007 by the Public Interest Network as the new home for U.S. PIRG’s environmental work, Environment America is a national advocacy organization with more than two million members and supporters spread across all 50 states. We defend America’s air, water, and land, promote renewable energy, and work to reduce the pollution that causes climate change.
Job Description and Responsibilities
The Clean Water Advocate will lead our efforts to convince federal policymakers to protect our water – including defending the Clean Water Act, securing federal funding to curb pollution, and building support for safe drinking water initiatives. The Clean Water Advocate will:
Watchdog Congress and the White House to guard against attacks on the Clean Water Act;
Meet with decision-makers to gather intel, educate, and advocate;
Coordinate field activities to build support for federal clean water policies
Engage key constituencies to speak out in defense of clean water
Earn media coverage;
Generate content for social media;
Continue our leadership in existing coalitions and build new ones to protect clean water;
Raise money through grants and large donors; and
Recruit and develop interns, staff, and future leadership.
The ideal candidate for our Clean Water Advocate will be:
● An impressive advocate, with excellent written and verbal communication skills;
● A dynamic relationship-builder, who listens, inspires, and builds powerful partnerships over time;
● A strategic thinker;
● Well-organized - able to track multiple efforts and keep multiple balls in the air; and
● Experienced – with 3+ years of in advocacy, grassroots organizing, coalition-building and/or campaign politics.
Compensation & Benefits: Compensation for this position is commensurate with the candidate’s relevant professional experience. Environment America offers a competitive benefits package.
